Cara Thompson writes:
A while ago, when we had our “inspiring devotionals” evening, I mentioned a book I was hoping to republish, and promised I would make it available for free for a while once it was ready. Well, it’s finally ready! The Road was written by my great grandmother and was originally published in 1935. Today’s blogpost is based around an extract from that book, focusing on the power of the resurrection in our lives, as we remember Jesus who died and rose again to set us free from our sin and grant us a new beginning in his name.
Happy Easter!

O thou who hast called us to know in ourselves the power of the Resurrection of thy Son Jesus Christ, through fellowship with his sufferings, we confess to thee the sterility of our faith, the fitfulness of our trust, the joylessness of our living; our fear to see too much of thy purpose, lest it call us from the worship of ourselves. We have sinned in our lack of faith in one another, whereby we have hindered the working of thy Spirit in each other; we have refused to understand the way of Incarnation, whereby we have separated ourselves from our fellows, and hindered our approach to thee. Yet, Lord, in our inmost hearts we believe; help thou our unbelief. Increase our faith, that we may go forward into life in the power of thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
And he laid his right hand upon me, saying,
Fear not; I am the first and the last and the living one; and I was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore.
Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
They sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,
Great and marvellous are thy works,
O Lord God, the Almighty;
Righteous and true are thy ways,
Thou King of the ages.
Who shall not fear, O Lord, and glorify thy name?
For thou art holy.
For all nations shall come and worship before thee,
For thy righteous acts have been made manifest.
For all thy saints who have died in faith not having received the promises but having seen them and greeted them from afar,
We praise thee, O God. We give glory unto thee.
For all who have chosen to be evil intreated, counting the reproach of Christ greater riches than any earthly treasure,
We praise thee,
For those who have endured as seeing him who is invisible,
We praise thee,
For those who from weakness were made strong,
We praise thee,
For those of whom thou art not ashamed to be called their God
We praise thee,
Above all for our Incarnate and Ascended Lord Christ, who is himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
We praise thee, O God.
We give glory unto thee.
Here, O Christ, we stand before thee, thy pledged soldiers and servants. Put on us for the work that lies before us the whole armour of God. Gird thou our loins with truth that we be not ensnared by any shams or self-deception. Give us a deep hunger after righteousness as our sure breastplate. Endue our feet with the swiftness of the message of thy peace. In our left hand be the shield of trust in thee; in our right our only weapon, thy unfailing word.
Be thou ever over us our eternal salvation, that we may go forth fearing nothing, but everywhere with boldness may make known the mystery of thy glorious gospel whereof thou hast made us thine ambassadors. Amen.
